The Day Marigold Learned to Skate

Marigold isn’t sure about the shiny water.

After a fresh snowfall, Sadie and Marigold set out across the meadow for a winter adventure. Along the way they meet friends, follow tracks through the snow, and discover something very surprising at the creek. The water isn’t moving. It’s smooth. It’s quiet. And it’s very slippery. Sadie thinks it’s the most fun thing she’s ever seen. Marigold isn’t so sure.

Sometimes trying something new feels a little scary—but with a little courage, a few laughs, and a good running start, Marigold might discover that the best adventures begin when you decide to try.

Sneak Peek

Marigold watched me slide again.

Back and forth.
Run and slide.
Run and slide.

I landed in the snow and rolled once more, because that part was still very good.

“See?” I said, popping back up. “Nothing bad happened.”

Marigold didn’t answer right away.

She stood at the edge of the shiny water, her paws planted firmly in the snow. She leaned forward just enough to look, but not enough to touch.

The shiny water looked back at her.

“I don’t understand it,” she said. “Yesterday this was running water.”

Meet the Friends in this Adventure

Sadie
A thoughtful rough collie who enjoys a good adventure—but she also likes to stop and notice what’s happening around her.

Marigold
Sadie’s energetic sister who loves games, races, and exploring the meadow. Marigold is brave and adventurous, but sometimes she has to think carefully before trying something completely new.

Dandelion
A cheerful rabbit who can bounce, leap, and change directions faster than almost anyone.

Rakku
A young deer with long, springy legs and lots of energy. Rakku enjoys running through the snow and racing across the meadow, even when her mother reminds her it’s time to head back to the herd.
