The Day the Alpacas Got Lost

Sadie and Marigold were expecting an ordinary day in the pasture. Instead they find themselves helping two wandering alpacas who can’t quite remember how to get home. With curious noses and wagging tails, the dogs follow clues, meet friends, and learn that even a lost adventure can lead somewhere wonderful.

Sneak Peek

Today feels like a good day for an adventure.

If you want an adventure, you go see Max.

Max lives down the road. He’s an Australian Shepherd. He wanders everywhere. Max doesn’t just go places—he ends up places.

Max has one good eye. He lost the other one on one of his adventures. Nobody knows exactly which adventure. Max doesn’t talk about it much. It doesn’t stop him at all. He is still very, very curious. I think maybe he’s even more curious now, just to prove a point.

I’m Sadie. I’m a rough collie. That means I have really long hair. This is important.

Long hair gets caught on things. Long hair collects things. Long hair remembers where you’ve been even when you don’t want it to. Adventures are fine, but you have to think about how they will look later when you’re brushing your fur.

I have a sister and best friend. Her name is Marigold. She’s a collie too, just a different color. Marigold does not think about brushing.

She thinks about now.

The sun is shining and the breeze is blowing—not too hard, just enough to make my fur lift a little.

That settles it.

Today would be a good day to visit our friend Max.
